The Ultimate History of the Messerschmitt





The company founded by Willi Messerschmitt was responsible for designing two of the most significant aircraft of the second world war: the BF 109 and the ME 262.
In this programme, we look at the development of the Bf 109 which flew in all theatres of conflict in which the Luftwaffe was involved. More Bf 109s were built than any other fighter of the era. After the war, the Spanish Air Force continued to operate them but powered by the engine of its great wartime adversary the spitfire's Rolls Royce Merlin.

The programme also features the ME 262, the world's first operational jet fighter. That fact alone should be enough to guarantee it's place in the history books but there were other aspects of its design that make the ME262 one of the greatest combat aircraft of all time. It had swept wings and flying tail both of which were to become the norm in combat aircraft for decades to come. But the ME 262 came into the war just too late to make a significant contribution, its production bedevilled by shortages of raw materials and dislocated schedules due to the Allies' bombing campaign.

Other aircraft featured include the Bf110 which was the world's first fighter designed specifically as a bomber escort and the ME 163 Komet, the extraordinary rocket-powered interceptor.

Gallipoli - WWI documentary (2005), Battle of gallipoli - narrated by Jeremy Irons and Sam Neill






This is a very well-made war documentary with a little
different approach - the narration is based on history and the letters of Anzac (australian-newzealand), British and turkish soldiers. It enables viewer to get a more personal and emotional approach to war history.

The Director Tolga Örnek premiered with his documentary "Atatürk" and won the third place in the US International Film and Video Festival. Planeta-BECA (Spain). In 2000, he directed a 52-minute English language documentary entitled Mount Nemrud: The Throne of the Gods which traced the story of the most spectacular ancient monument in Turkey. His second docu won again several prices world wide. In 2003 he wrote, produced and directed, The Hittites, a two-hour docu-drama narrated by Jeremy Irons, which has become the first documentary to be theatrically released in Turkey.

His last work "Gallipoli" is again a very well-made documentary which was strongly supported by many company sponsors, the australian war memorial museum and the turkish ministry of culture. It won several film festivals.

Great British Jets

Britain's Royal Air Force was the first allied Air Force to enter the jet age with the Gloster Meteor in 1944. It may not have been the most radical design but the Meteor was sold to many other air forces around the world, bringing them into the new era of jet power. It was the first of a line of great jets designed and, until recent years, built in Britain.

Within a decade of the Meteor, Britain test flew its first supersonic aircraft the English Electric Lightning. But whereas most other Air Forces made a gradual transition to supersonic aircraft, the RAF went straight to an aircraft that could fly at twice the speed of sound.

Again, the world was astounded when the vertical take off Harrier first flew. Here was an aircraft that could operate off unprepared surfaces, providing powerful support to the frontline troops.

This programme looks at some of the jet aircraft that have become household names: the Vampire, Hunter, Lightning, Buccaneer. The programme also presents profiles of the jets operated by today's Royal Air Force including the Jaguar, Harrier and Tornado with a closing look at the soon-to-be- in service Eurofighter 'Typhoon'

Perhaps the most important sequence shows Bill Clinton in a semi-trance state repeating the same message on TV cameras over and over again. Whilst make-up people tend to his clothes, Bill Clinton sits motionless, unblinking, staring into empty space - this is what Psy-Ops specialists call 'Park Mode'.

Starting with a look at the latest self-help phenomenon, The Secret, Alan Yentob sets out to learn from the big hitters in the self-help world: Susan Jeffers, author of the bestselling Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway; David Burns, whose book Feeling Good, The New Mood Therapy has sold over 5 million copies, and Anthony Robbins, who fills stadiums with his can-do performances. “Most people see things worse than they are so they never have to try,” says Robbins. “People say to me ‘I’m sceptical’ and I say no you’re not, you’re gutless.”

The End Day (BBC - Horizon, 2005)

End Day is a 2005 docu-drama produced by the BBC and aired on the National Geographic Channel, on the TV series, National Geographic Channel Presents, that depicts various doomsday scenarios.
